Serving the Grand Traverse Region
Our Aim

Along with our daughter, Lena, we, Cornelia and Michael Popp, enjoy a family life reflecting Christian values and both American straightforwardness and European humanistic and cultural traditions. We believe that this atmosphere at the Four Maples can benefit the self-esteem of our future residents and help provide them a warm, clean, safe and emotionally well rounded environment in which they receive a great deal of individual
attention. We look forward to serving the elderly and their families in the Grand Traverse area.
About Our Home

The Four Maples Retirement Home at 2510 East Silver Lake Road is located on Traverse City’s west side. It provides assisted living accommodations for a small group of 4-5 residents. Our home has three rooms equipped with ½ baths and an additional room with attached den and its own full bath. All of the rooms are naturally bright and buoyantly painted and furnished. Despite its rural setting Four Maples is in the immediate vicinity of Munson Medical Center, doctors, shopping and recreation. It is situated on a beautifully secluded, partially wooded, park like one acre lot with flower beds, vegetable gardens and fruit trees.

About the Owners

Cornelia Popp has many years of experience in the adult foster care field and is a native of Stuttgart, Germany. There she received her license as a Curative Education Nurse in 1990. In this capacity Cornelia worked extensively with physically and mentally handicapped youths and adults. After acquiring her teaching certificate, Cornelia went on to instruct elementary school in Hamburg while also providing in-house care for the elderly there. Michael Popp, a native of Traverse City, went on to the University of Illinois where he received his Bachelor of Music in 1981. A Fulbright Grant to Germany to continue his studies of the trumpet led to a nineteen-year stay. During this time he performed and recorded with some of Europe’s most well known orchestras, ensembles and conductors of classical and contemporary music. These included the Berlin Philharmonic under H. v. Karajan and the Ensemble Modern under Peter Eotvos and E. Bour.
Family
Homes Are Unique

An Adult Foster Care Family Home is a state-licensed private residence. It enables a couple to provide assisted living to six or fewer retirees who need help with daily activities but are not bedridden. As licensees of such a home, our residents and we enjoy the greatest personal freedom and independence in both concept and operation of our shared household. Everyone may exercise their full level of independence more than elsewhere.

Studies show that occupants of smaller, especially rural, assisted living facilities tend to be happier than residents in larger urban homes are. With merely four beds, our idyllic Four Maples Retirement Home, still within easy reach of the city's important conveniences, is ideally suited to satisfy everyone's desires. And a Family Home, besides providing one caregiver for just every 2-3 residents, is often less than half the expense of larger AFC Group Homes and 1/3 the cost of a nursing home. Most Michigan long term care insurance policies pay for Family Homes.
